SHEA STADIUM

Shea Stadium, the home of the NY Mets, opened in April of 1964, and was named after the popular attorney, William A. Shea, who spearheaded the drive to bring National League baseball back to New York after the departure of the Dodgers and Giants.  The Mets colors are an homage to those to departed teams:  Dodger Blue and Giant Orange.  In 2009, Shea Stadium will be replaced by Citi Field which is presently under construction adjacent to the current baseball park.
